An entropion is a lid that is turned in, usually the lower lid, toward the
eye. With the eyelid directed toward the eye the eyelashes rub up against the
eye causing ocular irritation, foreign body sensation, tearing and a red eye. An
entropion is most commonly caused by the aging process. As part of the aging
process the muscles that hold the lid in place become looser and the eyelids
start turning in towards the eye. It can also be seen as from a scar or chemical
burn and also can be congenital in nature.
Treatment:
The eyelid will be taped to prevent the eyelashes from rubbing the eyeball
and any lid infection will be treated. Persistent irritation or corneal
ulceration will require surgical correction.
