Regular visits to the family doctor for routine check-ups is key in preventing, diagnosing and treating medical diseases. Similarly, routine eye exams, even if you have good vision, may help prevent or detect eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataracts. Some eye diseases, such as glaucoma, may have no noticeable symptoms until eye damage has occurred. Glaucoma is usually associated with elevated pressure. Early detection and treatment can prevent or reduce damage to the optic nerve and visual loss.
